Bords et débords.
Research conducted on the unconventional housing structures of the inhabitants living along the quays of the Paris Seine River.
Their living situations are a return to the essentials; it is evident that there is a strong relationship between the individuals and the climate that shapes their way of utilizing the surrounding environment.
While gathering the elements for the research, visiting often the quays allowed to draw architectural observations of the unique structures which were created to withstand certain elements. It was essential to converse with the inhabitants and make social observations in order to better understand the lifestyle of the homeless population in Paris and their ways of coping with natural disasters, mainly the floods which often displace them.
Through this project the Architect was the liaison between the “users of these spaces” and the scientists, professors and social activists encountered through out the research. This master’s dissertation redefines living, and questions its processes. Living is no longer just a home but an outdoor space lived in and cared for.
