Cross-Country-skiing Centre
The project for a cross-country referee lookout, located among the Alps of Tarvisio, Italy, blends design and environmental conservation. Designed for the EYOF (European Youth Olympic Festival), is situated in a picturesque alpine setting, between the ski tracks and the forest.
Given the large program and preexisting construction of a garage for the snowcats, the building is designed to minimize its impact on the surrounding natural landscape.
The first choice was to integrate the building with the preexisting garage, connecting the two and using the same stone cladding for the lower level.
The upper level is cladded in black metal, which blends seamlessly with the surrounding tree bark and is designed to host the jurors for the cross-country ski competition. The structure of the building is concrete on the ground floor, which is also semi-underground, and timber on the top floor. The back of the top floor is connected to and accessible from the ski slope.
